Ariana Grande released “eternal sunshine” on Mar. 8 along with a music video for her track “we can’t be friends.” With smooth instrumentals, melodic vocals and complex lyrics, I give this album a 9/10 stars.

Catching a ball, junior Alivia Robinson plays at the Cedar Park vs Glenn game. Having played since she was 5 years old, she is dedicated to softball and has committed to UTPB for softball. “When I got my offer it took me a very long time to decide where,” Robinson said. “Softball has always been my dream for college, and UTPB is my fit. When [I committed] I knew I was going to be loved and supported.”

I got a round of applause in the middle of the show for a moment that I am very proud of.”

Posing with their “Featured Yearbook” banner, signifying that the 2022-2023 yearbook is used as an example for other yearbook classes, the yearbook team smiles at the camera. Yearbooks have been on sale for $80 all school year, with 90 left in stock. “Im really happy with this book,” content editor and senior James Sanderson said. “I think other people are going to be happy with it; all our pages look really cute. Issues are a thing, but we have them every single year and we dont let them get in the way. We work on a very, very tight schedule and theres no pushing deadlines back. It’s a lot of fun, though. It is such an amazing staff and a very engaging team. Its very fulfilling work.” Photo courtesy of Paige Hert

Book Review: Allegiant

Title: Allegiant

Author: Veronica Roth

Rating: 9/10 series, 8/10 Allegiant

Price: $11.97 online, Barnes and Noble

Story continues below advertisement

Allegiant is the third and final book of the Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth. The series is about a girl named Beatrice or ‘Tris’ who lives in a dystopian society, located in and around the city of Chicago, that divides the population into five factions, each with their own outstanding characteristic. When teenagers turn sixteen, they get to choose what faction they will be in for the rest of their lives, even if it means leaving their family. Before choosing what faction they will join, they go through a testing process that decides what faction they will fit best into.

Tris finds out that she is one of the few who belong in many factions. People like Tris are known as Divergent and are shunned by society. Tris tries to keep the secret, and joined the faction called Dauntless, whose quality is Fearless.

In the first book, Tris finds out that the faction known as Erudite, the Intelligent, is trying to take over the government, which is ruled by Abnegation, the Selfless. A war breaks out, and Tris must defend herself and her faction and the ones she loves, including another Dauntless Divergent named Tobias.

In the second book, Insurgent, Tris and Tobias take refuge from Erudite’s power with a faction called Amity, the Peaceful. They become part of the fight against Erudite and the rule of the factions.

Finally in Allegiant, Erudite has been defeated, but now everyone is without factions, and struggle to form a new government and keep the society running. Tris and Tobias join forces with a group called the Allegiant, who are trying to bring the factions back. But when they escape the society, there is more to the outside world than they thought.

After being a devoted fan of these books since the release of Divergent, I was excited to see what finally happens to Tris and her friends, and the outcome of their society. Allegiant held a lot of surprises, and there is not much that I can say without revealing any spoilers. I will say that I thought that the ending was not anything the readers were happy about. I heard a lot of complaints about the ending before I read the book, and I have to agree with them.

Overall, the book series is very well written, and surprisingly a lot of the plotline is almost parallel to James Dashner’s series, The Maze Runner. The movie for Divergent is coming out March 20, 2014.
